The cabinets of Louis XV were the origin for this type of clock. It was fashionable in Switzerland and the neighbouring countries in the 2nd half oft he 18th century.

The ‚Neuenburger Pendule’

This clock was made and signed in 1781 in Saeckingen by Gruony and is a typical representative of this type of clocks. The high quality of this piece indicates that Gruony learnt his craft in one of the centres of clockmaking in Switzerland such as Neuenburg, La Chaux-de-Fonds or Le Locle.
